Imphal, July 31 -- A national-level lecture and civil society consultation titled "The Question of Inclusion: Citizens, Census and Demography" was held in Guwahati yesterday, bringing together over 50 participants from across India, including representatives from the Northeast.
The event was organised by People's Census Watch in collaboration with Axom Nagarik Samaj, Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD)-Manipur, and Human Rights Alert (HRA).
Manipur representatives said during the discussion Prof GN Devy said the ongoing census exercise in India is primarily aimed at facilitating delimitation, warning that it could trigger political upheaval and potentially render hundreds of thousands of people stateless.
