Nagpur, Aug. 11 -- : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognisance of the deaths of three tribal girl students following snakebites at an ashram school in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra and issued a notice seeking a report on the incident.
The notice was issued following a complaint by social activist Kishor Tiwari, who alleged negligence and serious lapses in the safety and medical arrangements at the tribal residential school.
Tiwari's complaint to the Commission regarding this incident was accepted on August 11. Tiwari has demanded that the incident should not be termed an accident but as a "government massacre" and that responsibility should be fixed.
