Koppala, June 25 -- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday called for a national consensus on the proposed Godavari-Cauvery river-linking project, saying the initiative could provide a long-term solution to water scarcity in southern India and ensure optimal utilisation of surplus river waters.

Addressing a public programme, Naidu stressed the need for cooperation among states and the Centre to take forward major river-linking projects. He said interlinking rivers would help achieve equitable distribution of water resources, strengthen irrigation facilities, improve drinking water supply and enhance drought resilience in water-stressed regions.
