Nagpur, June 29 -- : Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil on Monday defended his speech at a 'Hindu Sammelan', saying his remarks were made strictly within the framework of the law and did not violate any service conduct rules, amid criticism from opposition parties.

Addressing his first press conference after assuming charge as Nagpur Police Commissioner, the senior IPS officer reiterated that his allegiance is solely to the Constitution and stressed that he respects all religions and communities.

The clarification comes after an old video of Nangare Patil speaking at a Hindu Sammelan organised by Sakal Hindu Samaj in Sanpada, Navi Mumbai, on April 19 went viral last week, triggering a political controversy.
