Nagpur, July 22 -- : Vaidehi Bhilawe, a Nagpur-based member of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has appealed to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) to have the Supreme Court take suo motu cognisance of the alleged police action against protesters during a recent demonstration in Delhi.

In a representation sent via email to the CJI Justice Surya Kant, Bhilawe said she was writing as a concerned citizen seeking the protection of fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution, particularly the freedoms of speech, expression and peaceful assembly.

She alleged that demonstrators, who were exercising their democratic right to protest peacefully, were met with excessive use of force by the police.
