BD NarayankarBengaluru, Aug. 17 -- The return of B Nagendra to the Karnataka Cabinet has revived a controversy the Congress government might have hoped was behind it. The Valmiki Corporation case has not gone away; if anything, Monday's proceedings in the Legislative Council have given the Opposition fresh political ammunition.

The government placed a formidable set of numbers before the House. Fourteen accused have been arrested. The SIT has seized Rs 16.83 crore in cash and more than 16 kg of gold jewellery. Around Rs 17 crore has been frozen.

Of the alleged Rs 84.63 crore diversion, Rs 79.68 crore has been recovered or is under the recovery process. The final charge sheet, however, is still awaited.
