New Delhi, July 29 -- Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha JP Nadda on Wednesday defended police action against student protesters amid a sharp exchange with Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge over the police action against students during the 20 July 'Sansad Chalo' march.
Responding to the Congress president, the union minister backed the police action against the protesters and recalled his own arrest during the Emergency. Nadda said as a student activist, he was arrested from the classroom during the Emergency under Congress rule. Arguing that student activism has historically involved such consequences, the union minister also said those who take the law into their own hands must be prepared to face the consequences.
