Kolkata, Feb. 22 -- An Army jawan from West Bengal's Murshidabad district died while on duty in Ladakh, reportedly after falling ill amid sub-zero temperatures.
The mortal remains of Monirul Islam, a resident of Raninagar, were brought back to his native village today morning in a special Army vehicle, drawing a large crowd of mourners.
According to Army sources, Monirul passed away on Friday afternoon while posted in Ladakh, where temperatures had dipped to minus 4 degrees Celsius.
He is said to have suffered a cardiac arrest while on duty. He was immediately rushed to a nearby military hospital for treatment, but doctors could not save him.
