Mumbai, Sept. 20 -- A proposal to create a Green-Blue Carbon Bank for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), using the carbon value of mangroves, wetlands, urban forests and other natural ecosystems, is gaining momentum and attracting international attention.
The proposal by the NatConnect Foundation seeks to explore whether the carbon stored and absorbed by these ecosystems can be scientifically measured, certified and converted into carbon credits, creating a possible source of funds for conservation.
London-based Carbon Pulse, a publication covering carbon markets and climate policy, has highlighted the proposal and described the MMR as a possible test bed for the concept.
