Mumbai, July 27 -- Mumbai's drinking water stock crossed the 88 per cent mark on Monday after heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of the city's seven reservoirs led to a sharp rise in storage levels, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
According to the BMC's Hydraulic Engineer's Department, the combined live water stock in Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Middle Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Vihar and Tulsi reservoirs stood at 12,79,534 million litres (ML) at 6 am on Monday, accounting for 88.40 per cent of the total live storage capacity of 14,47,363 ML.
The water stock increased by 2.22 percentage points over the previous 24 hours, owing to continuous rainfall in the catchment areas between 6 am on Sunday and 6 am on Monday.
