Mumbai, July 8 -- A 16-year-old boy died after drowning in a well in Kandivali area of the city suburb, police said here on Wednasday.

The incident happend while the boy was swimming with two friends during the continuous rainfall in the city.

The deceased has been identified as Preet Sandeep Ganve, 16, a resident of Kandivali West.

According to police, the water level in the well had risen sharply due to incessant rain over the past few days.

Despite the danger, the three friends entered the well to swim on July 7 afternoon.

Two of them managed to come out safely after some time. When Preet did not come out for a long time, locals raised an alarm.

The Kandivali police, Mumbai Fire Brigade and a rescue team rushed to the spot.
