Mumbai, July 10 -- Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested an MTNL clerk for allegedly helping a gang steal underground copper cables worth several crores of rupees from different parts of the city, police said here on Friday.
The action came after Crime Branch Unit-10 caught four persons while they were allegedly stealing underground cables near the Magathane Telephone Exchange in Borivali East on June 30.
Police said the team, led by DCP Navanath Dhavale and Senior Police Inspector Vishal Raje, seized copper cables worth around Rs 40 lakh. A JCB machine, a tempo pickup vehicle and equipment used in the theft were also seized. The total value of the seized property is about Rs 1.10 crore.
