Srinagar, June 18 -- Member of Parliament and National Conference leader Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to weaken and split opposition parties in a bid to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament, which he claimed would enable the ruling party to push through major constitutional amendments.
Speaking to reporters in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, Mehdi alleged that the BJP was targeting regional and opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Shiv Sena and others, to consolidate its strength in the Parliament.
"They have hidden goals. They want to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament so that they can bring constitutional amendments," Mehdi told reporters.
