Morena (MP), March 1 -- A significant increase has been recorded in the numbers of Ganges river dolphin, gharial and crocodile in the Chambal flowing through this district.

Owing to the Forest Department's conservation endeavours, clean water flow and local cooperation, sensitive species have found a favourable environment for safe breeding.

According to Department sources, a survey conducted between February 4 and 16 found that 440 crocodiles were born, taking their total number to 1,512. The gharial total is 2,938. In the National Chambal Sanctuary, spread over approximately 435 km, the area from here to Pachnada has been found to be the safest.
