Bhopal, Aug. 3 -- The counting of votes is underway for the Datia Assembly by-election in Madhya Pradesh, and the Congress was leading by slightly more than 6500 votes by the eighth round on Monday afternoon.
Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh was leading against the BJP candidate Ashutosh Tiwari.
The counting began in the morning, and the Congress has had a slight edge over the BJP since the first round, with Singh ahead of Tiwari.
The seat was originally with the Congress only in the 2023 State Assembly polls.
In 2023, Congress candidate Rajendra Bharti defeated the BJP candidate and then-MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra.
