Moradabad, March 29 -- In a significant judgment in the 15-year-old Mainather riot case, a local court here in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday sentenced 16 convicts to life imprisonment for attempting to murder the then Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police.
The verdict was delivered by Additional District Judge (ADJ-II) Krishna Kumar after completing the hearing on sentencing. Earlier, on March 23, the court had found all 16 accused guilty in the case.
Tight security arrangements were put in place at the court premises during the sentencing. The convicts were brought to court under heavy police custody. As the sentence was pronounced, family members of the accused were left stunned.
