Bhadradri Kothagudem, July 13 -- union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy on Monday said the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken what he termed were historic steps to strengthen the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), including the direct allocation of the Tadicherla-II coal block without an auction, a first in nearly 11 years.

Addressing Singareni workers and intellectuals during the 'Singareni Bharosa Yatra' in Kothagudem, Kishan Reddy said the Tadicherla-II block, capable of supporting coal production for 40-50 years, was allocated in response to a long-standing demand of Singareni workers and Telangana, ensuring the company's long-term future.
