Tarakeshawar, June 20 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi came down heavily on the previous governments in West Bengal run by the Congress, the Trinamool Congress and the Left Front alleging that they not only tried to make people "forget history" but also created a situation where infiltrators had "direct access" to the mainland of the country.

Addressing a public gathering at Tarakeshwar, around 60 kms from Kolkata, on the occasion of Paschimbanga Diwas - the first after the BJP government came to power in the state - the Prime Minister accused successive governments of pushing Bengal backward instead of making it a leader in national development.
