Nagpur, Aug. 28 -- : Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray warned auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers against refusing to speak Marathi or misbehaving with passengers, while criticising the Maharashtra government's decision to relax enforcement of Marathi language norms for transport operators.
Speaking to reporters here, Thackeray asserted that drivers operating in Maharashtra should be able to communicate in Marathi and treat passengers with respect.
He alleged that the state's decision to grant a one-year extension for drivers to learn Marathi had diluted the implementation of the language requirement and conveyed a wrong message.
