Kolhapur/Raigad, Oct. 28 -- MNS chief Raj Thackeray today visited Karjat tehsil in Raigad district to inspect the deforestation and tree felling linked to a proposed 3,000-MW pumped storage hydroelectric project by Torrent Power.

The visit comes amid a massive pushback from citizens, opposition parties and local groups like the Karjat Taluka Paryavaran Bachao Sangharsh Samiti opposing the planned cutting of 32,490 trees in areas such as Saidongar, Pali, and Kothal Khalati.

During his visit, Thackeray walked through the deforested forest patches, interacted with local tribals and Gram Sabha members, and noted that work had been launched on the project without proper local consultation.
