Mumbai, June 17 -- Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Bala Nandgaonkar on Wednesday strongly deprecated the political moves surrounding the alleged "Operation Tiger," saying that the ongoing trend of party defections is "harmful to democracy and disrespectful to voters".

Speaking to mediapersons, Nandgaonkar said that candidates contest elections on the symbol and ideology of a particular party, and voters cast their ballots based on those principles. Therefore, when elected representatives switch parties after winning, it not only insults the party they were elected from but also disregards the mandate of lakhs of voters.
