Mumbai, May 21 -- A session court in neighbouring Thane district on Thursday acquitted Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), party chief Raj Thackeray and all other co-accused in connection with the high-profile 2008 railway recruitment protest case.

Session Judge Abhijeet A Kulkarni in its opreative part order said that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence to establish the offence i.e. assault on non-local students or clearly prove the involvement of the accused persons. Due to a lack of evidence, the court acquitted Raj Thackeray and also granted him relief from allegations of making provocative statements.
