Aizawl, April 30 -- The last remaining underground ethnic militant group in Mizoram formally laid down arms today, with 43 cadres of the Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) - Lalhmingthanga Sanate faction - returning to the mainstream and embracing a peaceful way of life.
The "Home Coming and Arms Laying Ceremony", organised by the state government at the Central Training Institute (CTI) Parade Ground in Sesawng, marked the operational closure of insurgency in the northeastern state, nearly four decades after the historic 1986 peace accord that transformed Mizoram's security landscape.
