Aizawl, Aug. 26 -- In an unusual turn of events, Mizoram's police and election machinery are both grappling with the prolonged absence of two senior officers - one whose whereabouts are reportedly being sought by the police themselves, and another who has been transferred but whose replacement is yet to be appointed.

Shankar Chaudhary, an IPS officer serving as Officer-on-Special Duty at Police Headquarters in Aizawl, has reportedly been untraceable, prompting the state police to initiate an inquiry into his whereabouts, official sources said.

Chaudhary, who has been on leave for more than 150 days between April and July 15, was ordered to take up a new assignment as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Training). But he has not joined.
