Aizawl, Aug. 3 -- Defending the Centre's ethanol-blended petrol policy amid ongoing public debate, BJP Mizoram leader Zonuntluanga on Monday said the initiative was a carefully planned economic measure aimed at strengthening India's long-term energy security and reducing dependence on imported fuel.

Addressing a political session organised by the BJP Mizoram unit at its state office here, the BJP Aizawl district president said the Narendra Modi-led government had introduced ethanol blending after extensive deliberation, keeping the country's economic interests in mind.
