Aizawl, March 12 -- Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), the apex women's organisation in Mizoram, has urged Lalbiakzama, Speaker of the state Legislative Assembly, to expunge a controversial remark made by Chief Minister Lalduhoma while introducing the Mizo Marriage and Inheritance of Property (Amendment) Bill, 2026, during the Assembly session last month.
The remarks, which suggested that a Mizo woman marrying a non-tribal would cease to be considered a Mizo, triggered a wave of criticism and intense debate on social media, with many users expressing concern over the interpretation of the proposed legislation.
