Sangli, June 28 -- Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil on Sunday invited IPS officer Vishwas Nangre-Patil to participate in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) shakha activities, saying it would provide him with a better understanding of the organisation's values.

Addressing a press conference here, Patil, who is also the guardian minister of Sangli district, defended the RSS against recent remarks made by Nangre-Patil and asserted that there was "nothing anti-national" about the organisation.

He said the RSS imparted social values and patriotism and invited the IPS officer to actively participate in its branch-level activities instead of attending only public programmes.
