New Delhi, May 20 -- The parent company of Facebook, Meta Platforms, is set to lay off nearly 8,000 employees and has alerted thousands of workers that they are being laid off. The company said the move is part of a restructuring aimed at improving efficiency and reducing costs while continuing heavy investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Meta has started notifying employees, with staff in its Asian hub, Singapore, receiving notices at 4 am local time. Employees based in Europe and the United States are also expected to receive notifications early in their respective time zones, according to an internal memo.
Further, Meta is encouraging staff to work from home while the company cuts roughly 8,000 roles globally.
