Shimla, March 1 -- The Himachal Pradesh administration has directed that government employees found guilty in drug-related cases should be dismissed from service, while clarifying that action must strictly follow the due legal process.

According to instructions issued by the Chief Secretary,Sanjay Gupta on Saturday, disciplinary authorities have been advised to invoke Rule 19 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965 under which dismisal followed only after charges are proved in a court of law. The fresh clarification comes in the backdrop of confusion over whether mere registration of an FIR under the NDPS Act is sufficient to initiate dismissal proceedings.
