Shillong, Aug. 24 -- Agitating tourist taxi operators in Meghalaya today temporarily suspended their stir against the entry of Assam-registered tourist vehicles into Meghalaya following the state government's assurance to resolve their grievances by September 10.

This decision was taken by the All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA) and the All Shillong Tourist Taxi Association (ASTA) following their meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Transport, Sniawbhalang Dhar, and senior government officials.

The tourist taxi association had taken a stand not to enter Assam and also disallow Assam tourist vehicles into Meghalaya, following alleged harassment in Assam in the wake of the August 19 violence in Shillong.
