Shillong, April 6 -- The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) in the Meghalaya assembly has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing concern over the union government's introduction of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) (FCRA) Amendment Bill, 2026, in Parliament.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit acknowledged the union government's role in ensuring transparency and national security regarding foreign contributions, but cautioned that certain proposed provisions could adversely affect civil society organisations, particularly those engaged in charitable, educational, and humanitarian work.
