Shillong, May 31 -- Stunting among children in Meghalaya have declined from 46.5 per cent to 36.8 per cent through government support and community ownership, according to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6) today.
The survey also highlights encouraging breastfeeding practices, with 76.4 per cent of children breastfed within one hour of birth and 97.1 per cent of infants under six months currently breastfeeding.
Stunting is the impaired growth in children due to chronic poor nutrition. Therefore, the reduction rate of such children means the state was able to provide better nutrition to children through a coordinated effort.
