Shillong, Aug. 27 -- Meghalaya is progressing toward becoming the state with the most extensive organic coverage in the country, in line with the state government's initiatives to phase out chemical fertilisers, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma told the Assembly on Thursday.
"We have to remember the larger message is that Meghalaya and the whole world are trying to move towards organic farming. We are not here to encourage, but to discourage the use of fertilisers," Sangma said while intervening during the Question Hour.
"Bio-fertilisers have been introduced. We are in a transition mode, and we hope one day we will not have any chemical fertilisers," he added.
