Shillong, May 7 -- Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Home, Prestone Tynsong, on Thursday said that the police department has taken suo motu cognizance of reports of extortion notes received by businessmen from the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

Tynsong has urged those individuals who received extortion notes to lodge a complaint with the police.

"They can informally apprise us. We are there to track it. We will ensure that everybody is safe and engaged in business peacefully," Tynsong said.

"Be it HNLC or a group of thieves or criminals, we are there and we are firm. We will deal with them very firmly," Tynsong added.
