Shillong, March 21 -- Meghalaya Governor C.H. Vijayashankar has summoned a two-day special session of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC on March 23 and 24.

The two-day session will deliberate on amendments to the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts Council Rules, 1951, an official said on condition of anonymity.

According to the official, the proposed amendment will insert an eligibility criteria for candidates and voters in the GHADC elections.

The proposed amendment assumes significance in the backdrop of the recent communal violence erupting over the participation of non-tribals in the tribal council elections.
