Shillong, March 26 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday said that elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) will be conducted in consultation with the council leadership.

"The district council is an autonomous body.. We will wait for the different decisions being made by the council. We are in close touch with the leaders of the GHADC, the new CEM and his new Executive Committee, and based on discussions, we will see how to move forward," the Chief Minister said.

The ruling National People's Party, which is heading the coalition government in the State, is leading the Executive Committee in the GHADC.

The GHADC is a 30-member council with one member is nominated by State Governor constituencies.
