Shillong, Aug. 1 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the advance release of Rs 688 crore as tax devolution to the state, which will help the state government accelerate capital projects and developmental expenditure.

"This timely support will enable Meghalaya to further accelerate infrastructure development and deliver key welfare and development initiatives for our people," Sangma stated in a social media post.

"We deeply appreciate the Government of India's continued commitment to strengthening cooperative federalism," the Chief Minister, who also holds the Finance portfolio, said.
