Shillong, Aug. 19 -- The Jaintia Students' union (JSU) has filed an application before the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Eastern Zone Bench in Kolkata, challenging Shree Cement's proposed 217.394-hectare mining project in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district.
The application was filed on Tuesday (August 18) by JSU Education Secretary, Bocheru Mi Pohsnem, alongside President, Jersom Shylla and Assistant Finance Secretary, Wansalan Dame Patwet.
The application was filed after JSU's 10-day ultimatum to the Meghalaya government to declare the July 31 environmental public hearing for a Rs 1,800 crore integrated cement plant and limestone mining project of Shree Cements Ltd. at Lum Syrman null and void.
