Shillong, March 12 -- Congress MP Saleng Sangma today called on Governor C.H. Vijayashankar at Lok Bhawan over the recent violence in Meghalaya's Garo Hills region, which left two persons dead and several others injured.

The unrest had begun with protests opposing the participation of non-tribals in the elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), prompting the government to postpone the polls, which were slated for April 10.

"I briefed him (Governor) on the violence in Garo Hills region. We discussed how to restore peace among all the turmoil," Sangma, who represents the Tura Lok Sabha seat, told reporters after meeting the Governor.
