New Delhi, March 19 -- The City SP Zone of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is in the final phase of its extensive drive to remove legacy waste accumulated along railway tracks, marking a significant push toward urban cleanliness and environmental safety.

The campaign, covering nearly 6.5 kilometres, has made substantial progress despite unexpected challenges.

Officials noted that while initial assessments suggested surface-level waste, excavation revealed deposits extending up to 1-1.5 metres deep at several locations, complicating the operation.

As of March 18, a total stretch of 2,185 metres has been cleared, with approximately 1,388.6 metric tonnes of waste removed.
