Lucknow, Aug. 13 -- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati on Thursday expelled senior party leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Anant Kumar Mishra alias Antu Mishra from the party with immediate effect.

In an official statement, Mayawati said Mishra, who served as Health Minister in the BSP government in Uttar Pradesh, was expelled from the party for his alleged "anti-party activities".

The BSP chief also urged party workers at all levels to remain vigilant, particularly as the political atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh heats up ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
