Nagpur, June 18 -- A Maulana accused of facilitating the alleged forced conversion and rape of a 24-year-old woman surrendered before Nagpur Police late Wednesday night after remaining absconding for several days, police said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Hazrat, a resident of Tamia in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district, appeared at Sonegaon police station and surrendered, a senior police official said.

According to police, multiple teams had been deployed to trace him, with officers camping in Tamia for the past several days.

As pressure mounted, the accused "surrendered before the police," the official said.
