Chandigarh, May 16 -- A massive fire broke out at a furniture manufacturing unit in the Jagraon area of Ludhiana district on Saturday, sending thick plumes of smoke rising high into the sky, which were visible from nearly two kilometres away, officials said.
The incident triggered panic in the surrounding areas after the blaze rapidly intensified within minutes. Around 50 workers present inside the factory managed to escape safely, averting a major tragedy.
