Kanpur, April 6 -- A massive fire broke out at the Phool Bagh fruit and vegetable market in Kanpur on Monday evening, causing widespread destruction and panic in the area.

The incident occurred around 5:45 PM near the Ordnance Factory, where more than 20 shops were completely gutted in the blaze.

According to initial reports, the fire rapidly engulfed the tin-shed structures allocated to vendors under the Smart City project.

Nearly 28 shops were present in the market, out of which at least 20 were destroyed.

Around 25 handcarts and several motorcycles were also reduced to ashes.
