Mumbai, May 4 -- Indian benchmark indices traded modestly higher in early afternoon deals on Monday, supported by broad-based buying, though gains were capped by intraday volatility and mild profit booking.

The BSE Sensex rose 349.13 points, or 0.45 per cent, to 77,262.63 around 1:04 pm IST. The index moved between a high of 77,910.75 and a low of 77,192.68 during the session. It had opened at 77,257.27 against the previous close of 76,913.50.

The NSE Nifty 50 also advanced 111.80 points, or 0.47 per cent, to 24,109.35. It touched an intraday high of 24,290.20 and a low of 24,061.85, after opening at 24,063.55 compared with its previous close of 23,997.55.
