Mumbai, Aug. 19 -- Drivers in Mumbai who don't know Marathi face suspension of their licences on the spot from Thursday (tomorrow). In a push for Marathi, Senior leader of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Wednesday announced that RTO squads will suspend licences of taxi and autorickshaw drivers who do not speak Marathi on the spot.
Sarnaik told media persons that, "Initially, a driver who does not know Marathi will be given a one-month notice and an opportunity to learn the language. If the driver does not learn Marathi despite receiving the notice, the driver's license will be suspended for 3 months.
