Kolkata, June 17 -- Maoist militant Pushpa, alias Varsha, has surrendered, city police commissioner Ajay Kumar Nand announced on Wednesday.

Also known by the name Shakuntala, she hailed from Belpahari in West Bengal's Jhargram district.

An SLR rifle, a magazine, and 37 rounds of ammunition have been recovered from the arrested militant.

Nand told mediapersons that Pushpa had moved to the Saranda forest in Jharkhand while she was still a sixth-grade student.

She was a member of the Zonal Committee of the Dalma Squad within the Maoist organisation. Since then, she had been active along the Bihar-Odisha-Jharkhand border, primarily operating within the Saranda forest.
