Chandigarh, Oct. 7 -- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of a Rs 47.38-crore, 14-million-litres-per-day water treatment plant at Bardwal village in Dhuri constituency, saying the canal-water-based project would provide improved drinking water supply to around 85,000 residents while reducing dependence on groundwater.

Mann said the project would treat canal water and make it fit for drinking, addressing both present and future water requirements of Dhuri. "Through this Water Treatment Plant, canal water will be treated to provide clean, safe and quality drinking water to the people. Approximately 85,000 residents of Dhuri will benefit from improved water supply facilities," he said.
