Imphal/Ukhrul, April 1 -- Tension continues to grip Manipur's Ukhrul and neighbouring Kamjong districts due to a series of incidents, including clashes along the Imphal-Ukhrul road involving Kuki and Tangkhul Naga communities aggravated by the killing of four Naga militants allegedly by another radical group of the same community.

Ukhrul and Kamjong, predominantly inhabited by Tangkhuls, comprise a few Kuki villages. Conflicts between the two communities have led to kidnappings of those who travel on the highway. People belonging to the Tangkhul community have to take a long detour to reach Imphal.

Appeals by Chief Minister Y Khemchand and a meeting between Tangkhul MLAs and the affected communities have not yet yielded positive response....
