Imphal, Aug. 31 -- The Manipur High Court on Monday ordered the halting of house-listing operations of 2027 Census, due to begin from Tuesday, after being told by the union and the State Governments to defer it following a batch of petitions challenging the census notifications and pressing for enforcement of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the State.

A division bench of Chief Justice M. Sundar and Justice A. Guneshwar Sharma passed the order when a public interest litigation filed by the Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) and the International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA), along with a connected writ petition filed by Imphal resident Shanta Singh Nahakpam, came up for hearing.
